Coming Up

We have been a little quiet on here recently which has mostly been down to being so busy with gigging, recording, rehearsing and basically getting things in line for the rest of the year!

As we mentioned in our last blog we have just finished recording our second EP at The Motor Museum Studios and we are now waiting for the tracks to be mastered so we can get the EP sent out. Fingers crossed we will find someone to release it for us and give it the exposure it deserves.

We have had a few great gigs since coming out of the studio. The first one being at one of our favourite venues - Night and Day Cafe, Manchester. It was a busy night and as usual the crowd made it for us. Cheers to everyone who came to check us out. We were pleased to get a couple of tidy reviews from the night - have a gander below:

Salford Online Review

One thing we wanted to mention while we're on the topic of Night and Day is this ridiculous situation with the noise complaints from the Neighbours. If you've not heard about it have a read here. It's still ongoing and it seems to be a bit of a worrying time for the venue. So basically we are just asking you to give your support to them and sign the petition. Because WE JUST DON'T GET IT! Why move into a residence in such close proximity to not only Night and Day, but to all of the other popular music venues and bars that have been happily trading in the area for years if it's just not your bag? Hopefully it will all be sorted soon and Night and Day can get back to what it does best - hosting live events that support up and coming artists.

We were also pleased that our mate, Jordan Allen invited us down to support him at his EP launch. This was (surprisingly) our first gig in Bolton and The Blind Tiger was a cool little venue that we would definitely love to play again. As we didn't have many regular faces with us, it was great for us to see a fair few people at the front singing our songs. The power of social media eh ;-) Anyway Jordan nailed it and we enjoyed the whole night. We get a good mention in the review of the night here.

At the risk of bombarding you with links - just wanted to point you to this very brief write-up that we had brought to our attention on the Epiphone site just the other day (here). As we all play Epiphones we are proper chuffed that we have got on their radar. And if you ever want to sponsor us, lads - well you know where we are...

So back to business. We have booked two last minute gigs for this weekend. Both on Saturday 12th April. We are starting off the day playing at Media City as part of their 'Garden Party'. There's lots going on including food stalls, free family activities and live music. So if you don't have plans there's really no excuse as it's FREE. We're on at 5pm.

Then in the evening we're heading to Ruby Lounge to support The Wooden Tops.We still have a few spaces on the guest list which gets you in for £6 rather than £12.50 so drop us a message on Facebook or Twitter if you want on.

And lastly. We were excited to get our hands on these:

We are really looking forward to headlining Gorilla, Manchester on 17th May. This will be the biggest crowd we've played to so far, and we are going to be working hard in rehearsal over the next few weeks to make sure the set is top notch. Fellow Salfordians, Skinny Roller are supporting us again on the night, along with another band who are making a lot of noise, The High Nines. The roof is COMING OFF, so make sure you get in touch for tickets ASAP as they will go fast. Check out the full event details here.

Second EP in the bag!

This week...is the week we've been waiting for. And it was EPIC!

You'll have read in previous posts that we were due to head back to the  Motor Museum recording studio in Liverpool to record our second EP; and so this week we packed up all the gear and we've been spending twelve-hour days locked away playing our tunes in this amazing place. Check out the website here to have a look at the place and see who has also recorded there.

Here's a few snaps of the week...

Working with the fantastic producer, Will Purton we were able to not only do each track justice, but really bring it to life. If you get chance to work with him take him up on it while he is relatively unknown as he is definitely destined to get bigger and better.

By Friday we walked away with rough copies of the six tracks that are going to appear on the EP and even before they have been mastered we can hear the difference in quality from previous recordings. It is seriously on another level and we are really excited to have something new to offer you all - even for those of you who are regulars at ours gigs as two of the tracks have never before been played live!

Once it is all finalised we are going to look for a small deal where we can release it on vinyl, but either way it will be available later in the year so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the announcements as we'll be giving away advanced copies via competitions ;-)

In the mean time we are still gigging and loving the reception we're getting. Our next gig is at Night and Day CafĂ©, Manchester on Saturday 22nd March. With four other top bands on make sure you get in touch with us ASAP for tickets as it's going to be busy one! See the event details here

Grab your ticket for 22nd while you can.

Other gigs coming up include:

- 29th March @ The Blind Tiger, Bolton
- 5th April @ Gullivers, Manchester
- 26th April @ Ducie Bridge, Manchester
- 17th May @ Gorilla, Manchester
- 28th June, The Barcelona, Cleethorpes

See you at the front!

The Nankeens

Sunday 12 January 2014

New year, new projects.

You may not have heard of Owkay clothing yet; but we're willing to bet you will be hearing a lot more about it soon. Not least because they have kindly offered to sponsor frontman, Adam and he'll be sporting their tees and hats at all of the Nankeens gigs this year.

This week he received his first batch of goodies as you can see below.

They are pretty cool, and if you're interested in being trend-setter instead of a follower get over to their website and facebook account to grab something.

Don't forget we have our first three gigs of the year coming up. We're venturing out of Manchester for our first which is on the 25th January at The Sun Inn, Chesterfield. We always like playing in new places so we're looking forward to getting our tunes heard in a new (to us) venue, and hopefully get our music out to another bunch of music lovers who are yet to discover The Nankeens! If any of you are around the area make sure you get down and give us some support. We always like to see familiar faces.

Secondly we have our own night, The Playlist vol.2 at The Ruby Lounge on 31st January, featuring David Shurr, Not Hot Ashes, The Fallows and ourselves. It's just £2 if you bring the event flyer along and you can print that off from the Facebook event page. We're pretty sure there isn't a better line up, in a better venue for a better price.

Then the night after (1st Feb), we're doing another local gig in a secret warehouse. The exact location won't be announced until the day. Even we don't know where it is! But we are told it's an intimate venue and it WILL sell out. So if you're as intrigued as we are get your tickets here.

We have a new track for your ears that hasn't been played before so it will make an appearance at all three gigs, and we are very excited to have the producer from Liverpool Motor Museum studios visit us in rehearsal this week to listen to it along with a few new ideas. We're back in with him in March to record the rest of our new EP so watch this space.

How do you get rid of the January blues?.. Come to The Playlist vol.2 of course!

Happy New Year! And what better way to start it than with our second 'The Playlist' event. After the success of the first one that we hosted last year (see here ) we decided we were overdue to get another set of class acts together so we could show Manchester how much brilliant unsigned music is out there.

As you can see, it is a bargain at £2OTD if you bring this flyer along. So print it out and get your arses down to the Ruby Lounge on 31st.

With awesome support from The Fallows, No Hot Ashes and David Shurr we all promise to rid you of the January blues.

Check out the event page for more info including links to music from the lineup. The Playlist vol.2 event info

We've got lots of other stuff in the pipeline for 2014, so keep your eyes and ears open in the usual places to hear the latest news as we finalise it. Until then - keep supporting the scene.

Peace out.
